"There's a little bit of magic between dem walls."
Wyldwood is a recording facility and record label located in West Oakland, CA. We offer both analog and digital recording although we prefer to do the basic tracking to analog whenever possible. We just love us some analog! We have a large unique selection of vintage and new microphones, keyboards, drums, percussions, drum machines, records (for sampling), and various stringed instruments. The Studio features a MCI 416B recording console which once belonged to Muscle Shoals studio which recorded bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, and Aretha Franklin. Also featured is our Ampex MM1000 2" 16 trk Tape Machine (Ol' Bessy) which once belonged to RCA records and recorded Elvis Presley and many other greats. Just listen to those relays purr. Some people say Wyldwood feels more like a home than a recording studio which we feel allows the artist to become comfortable and deliver a more natural and heart felt performance.
Wyldwood is run by engineer and producer Mike Walti. Walti is a third generation Bay Area Native. His grandfather, Paul Walti, was an Irish Tenor out of San Francisco and collector of microphones and recording equipment so Walti could not help but follow in his footsteps. Walti began his recording career in Oakland as an intern for FM Recorders which recorded artists like En Vogue, Toni Tone Tony, and Timex Social Club. Within one year he was Head Engineer and Studio Manager. Walti loved working at FM Recorders but felt he needed his own facility to really fine tune his sound and style as an engineer and producer so in 2009 he opened up Wyldwood Studios.
Some of the artists that Mike has recorded, mixed, or produced include Big Freedia, Shannon and the Clams, Lauren Hill, Hottub, Sissy Nobby, Apache, Augusta Collins, The Crown City Rockers, Latyrx, Why?, Rogue Wave, Too Short, E40, Del the Funky Homosapien, Lateef the Truth Speaker, The Grouch, Dan the Automator, Yukmouth, R.O.D., D'Wayne Wiggins, Erk the Jerk, Bart Davenport, Jel, Charlie Tuna, DJ Platurn, Freeway, The Heavenly States, The Society of Rockets, Saafir, Sasha Dobson, Destini Wolf, Wil Blades, Dayna Stephens, Smith Dobson, David Boyce, Lee Bloom, Ka, Marcus Shelby, Mitch Marcus, Grachan Moncur, Sameer Gupta, Howard Wiley, Tommy McElroy and Denzil Foster, Carl Wheeler, Hal Stein, Patrick Korte, Immigrant, Kev Choice, Spice 1, Mike Marshall (Who sung I got 5 on it), the wombats, Kiosk, Mc Rut, Agua Libre, TV Mike and the Scarecrows, Miriam Speyer, and a few more.
